Wezel: Retro Phone · Last updated 17 October 2026
Wezel: Retro Phone ("the app") is a pretend mobile phone from 1999 on a private network of its own. You get a seven-digit number on that network and can call and text other people who use the app. This policy says what the app collects, who receives it, how long it is kept, and how to delete it. "We" means the developer of the app. Write to us at support@wezel.ai.
The short version
- We collect what the phone needs to work: your account, your number, the messages you send, your call records and your phone book. Nothing else.
- There is no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. We do not sell or share your data for advertising.
- Messages are deleted after 30 days. Voice messages are deleted after 14 days.
- The AI lines (100 and 8008) send what you say or text to them to our call provider, Deepgram and OpenAI. This happens only if you allow it, and you can stop it at any time in Settings → AI lines. Calls and texts between people never reach an AI.
- You can delete your account in the app: Settings → Delete account.
What we collect, and why
Everything below is collected to run the app, and is linked to your account.
| What | Why | Who receives it | How long it is kept |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your email address from Sign in with Apple (often a private relay address that Apple makes) | To create and sign in to your account | Our hosting provider | Until you delete your account |
| Your account ID, your Apple user ID and your phone number on the network | To know who you are and route calls and messages to you | Our hosting provider; our call provider (your number names you in a call) | Until you delete your account. Your number is then held back for 90 days before anyone else can have it. |
| Your device's push notification token | To ring your phone and tell you a message has arrived | Our hosting provider; Apple Push Notification service | Until the device signs out or you delete your account |
| Messages you send and receive: texts, chat, business cards, picture messages and their words, and ringing tones | To deliver them | Our hosting provider | 30 days. A text waiting for a phone that is switched off waits up to 7 days, then fails. |
| Call audio | To carry the call | Our call provider, which relays every call. Calls to 100 also go to Deepgram and OpenAI (see The AI lines). | Not recorded or stored by us |
| Voice messages left on the answerphone (901) | To play them to the person they were left for | Our hosting provider | 14 days, or until either account is deleted |
| Your phone book, your saved Composer tunes, your listing name if you choose one, your blocked numbers | To keep them on your account | Our hosting provider | Until you erase them or delete your account |
| Call records (who called whom, when, how long, what it cost), the numbers you dialled, and your credit balance and its history | For the call register and the credit balance | Our hosting provider | Call records and the credit history are kept as the account's records. Deleting your account removes everything that identifies you from them. The dialled list keeps your last 20 numbers. |
| Reports you file, and reports about you, with a copy of the reported message | To deal with abuse | Our hosting provider; the developer | Kept for as long as moderation and any legal claim need them, also after an account is deleted |
| Your yes or no to the AI lines and its time, your agreement to the terms and that you are 18 or over, and the phone's settings (switched on or off, tone plan) | To respect your choices | Our hosting provider | Until you delete your account |
| Service events (for example, that a call started or a message was sent) | To keep the network working and find faults | Our hosting provider | 90 days |
What we do not collect
We do not collect your location, your iPhone's contacts, photos, camera, health or financial information, browsing or search history, or diagnostics from the app. The network name on the phone's screen comes from your iPhone's region setting and stays on your iPhone. The app contains no advertising or analytics code and does not track you across other apps or websites.
Like any internet service, our providers see your device's IP address when the app connects to them, and keep it in their own logs for a short time, under their own terms.
Who receives your data
- A cloud hosting provider runs the network's servers and database: the accounts, numbers, messages, calls, phone books and credit.
- A call provider carries the sound of every call, between people and to the AI lines. It also receives connection statistics from the app, as part of carrying calls.
- Deepgram turns speech into text and text into speech on calls to the AI lines, through the call provider.
- OpenAI writes the Operator's spoken replies on calls to 100, through the call provider, and writes replies to texts sent to the AI lines when model replies are switched on.
- Apple provides Sign in with Apple and delivers notifications (Apple Push Notification service).
We name our hosting and call providers to anyone who asks at support@wezel.ai. These providers process your data for us to run the app, and not for their own advertising. Some of them process it outside your country, including in the United States. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone else, unless the law requires it.
This version of the app sells nothing. If buying credit is added later, Apple will handle the payment and this policy will be updated first.
The AI lines
Two numbers on the network are answered by AI and wear the AI marker: the Operator on 100 (calls and texts) and the Chatline on 8008 (texts). Nothing else on the network is answered by AI. Calls and texts between people never reach an AI.
- When you call 100, your voice goes through our call provider to Deepgram, which turns it into text; OpenAI writes a reply; Deepgram speaks it. The call is not recorded, and nothing from it is kept after you hang up.
- When you text an AI line, it answers with fixed replies. If model replies are switched on, your text and the last few texts between you and that line go to an AI provider (OpenAI) to write the reply, and the reply is checked for abuse before it is sent.
- Nothing reaches these providers until you say yes: on the sign-in screen, or in Settings → AI lines → Allow. Until then, a call to 100 is refused with "AI lines are off", before anything rings.
- You can withdraw at any time in Settings → AI lines → Stop. From then on nothing you say or text to the AI lines is sent to them.
Your choices and your rights
- Delete your account in the app: Settings → Delete account, then confirm and sign in with Apple once more. This erases your number (held back for 90 days and then reissued), your phone book, tunes, blocks, settings, push tokens, voice messages and every message you sent, including those already delivered to other people. We ask Apple to revoke the app's access to your Apple ID. What is kept: call records and the credit history, with nothing that identifies you; messages other people sent you, which are theirs; and reports, which moderation needs.
- Withdraw consent to the AI lines in Settings → AI lines. Turn off notifications or the microphone in the iPhone's Settings app.
- Erase your call register, phone book entries and messages on the phone at any time.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to erase it or to restrict how it is used, or object to how it is used, by writing to support@wezel.ai from the email address on your account or with your phone number. We answer within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Age
The app is for people aged 18 or over. You confirm your age when you sign up. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 18, we delete it.
Security
Data travels encrypted between the app and our providers. Each account can read only its own data. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we will tell you as the law requires.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its date. If a change matters to how your data is used, the app will tell you before it applies.
