Terms of Use
Wezel: Retro Phone · End User Licence Agreement · Last updated 17 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and the developer of Wezel: Retro Phone ("we", "us") for your use of the app and its network (together, "the service"). You accept them when you tap Agree on the sign-in screen. If you do not accept them, do not use the service. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data.
No tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. You must not send anything objectionable or abuse anyone. We act on every report within 24 hours: we remove the offending content and eject the user who sent it.
1. Who may use the service
- The service is for adults. You must be 18 or over, and you confirm it when you sign up.
- You may hold one account, made with your own Apple ID. Keep your iPhone and Apple ID secure; you are responsible for what is sent from your account.
2. What the service is, and is not
- Wezel: Retro Phone is an entertainment app: a pretend mobile phone from 1999 on a private network of its own. Your number is a seven-digit number on that network, and it reaches only other people using the app.
- It is not a telephone service. It cannot call or text real phone numbers, and it cannot call emergency services. Never rely on it in an emergency.
- Like a 1999 network, messages are sometimes delayed and occasionally lost on purpose. Do not rely on the service for anything important.
- We may change, suspend or end any part of the service. Your number may be changed if the network needs it.
3. Objectionable content and abusive users
You must not use the service to send, list or say anything that:
- harasses, bullies, threatens, stalks or intimidates anyone, or encourages self-harm;
- is hateful or demeaning on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age;
- is sexually explicit, or sexual content of any kind involving minors;
- is violent, gory, or glorifies violence or terrorism;
- is spam, a scam, phishing, impersonation, or a solicitation;
- shares someone else's personal information without their permission;
- is illegal, or infringes anyone's rights.
You must not contact someone who has blocked you through another account, try to get around the network's limits, filters or blocks, or interfere with the service.
How we enforce this.
- The network refuses texts, names and picture-message words that contain slurs and strong abuse. They are not sent and not charged.
- You can block any person's number: from a received message's Options, or from the call register. A blocked number cannot call or text you. Your blocks are listed in Settings → Blocked numbers.
- You can report any message you received, including from an AI line, from the message's Options → Report. The network keeps a copy of the reported message and blocks the sender. You can also report abuse by email (see Support).
- We act on every report within 24 hours. If the content breaks these terms, we remove it and eject the user who sent it by deleting their account, which erases everything they sent. We may also suspend or delete an account without a report when we see these terms broken, and we may report illegal content to the authorities.
4. Credit
- Calls and messages cost credit. New accounts get free starting credit, and accounts that used the phone in a month get free credit at the start of the next. The prices are shown in the app and may change.
- Credit is not money. It has no cash value, cannot be exchanged for money, goods or services outside the app, cannot be transferred to another account, and is not refundable. It is a limited licence to use the service, not property.
- Credit ends when your account is deleted or ejected. We may adjust a balance that was gained by mistake or by breaking these terms.
- This version sells no credit. If buying credit is added, Apple will handle payment under Apple's terms, and these terms will say so first.
5. The AI lines
- Two numbers are answered by AI, and wear the AI marker on the screen: the Operator on 100 (calls and texts) and the Chatline on 8008 (texts). The first text you get from each line says that it is automated. Calls and texts between people are never answered by AI.
- Nothing you say or text to them reaches an AI provider until you allow it, on the sign-in screen or in Settings → AI lines. A call to 100 then goes through our call provider to Deepgram (speech) and OpenAI (replies). You can stop it there at any time; a call to 100 is then refused before it rings.
- Texts to the AI lines get fixed replies. When model replies are switched on, a model writes them instead, within a daily limit, and they are checked for abuse first.
- AI replies are generated automatically. They can be wrong, odd or unsuitable, and they are not advice of any kind. Do not rely on them, and do not tell them anything you would not want sent to those providers. Report any reply that is offensive; we act on it within 24 hours like any other report.
- Calls to an AI line cost more credit a minute than calls to people, as the app shows. Texts from the AI lines are free.
6. Your content
What you send stays yours. You give us the permission we need to carry, store and deliver it for the service, and to keep a copy of anything reported to us. Messages are deleted after 30 days, as the Privacy Policy explains.
7. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account. We may suspend or delete your account if you break these terms. Sections 4, 8, 9 and 10 continue after your account ends.
8. Licence
We grant you a non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the app on any Apple device you own or control, as the Usage Rules of Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions permit. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, rent, reverse-engineer or make derivative works of the app, except as the law or the licences of its open-source parts allow. Those parts and their licences are listed in the app under Settings → About.
9. No warranty, and limits on our liability
To the extent the law allows, the service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss, or for loss caused by delayed, lost or misdelivered calls or messages, or by AI replies. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, or your rights as a consumer.
10. Apple
- These terms are between you and us only, not with Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the app and its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. Contact us instead (see Support).
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any, of the app to you. To the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the app, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses from a failure to conform to a warranty are our responsibility.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to the app or your possession or use of it, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, and claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws.
- If a third party claims that the app or your possession and use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are solely responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of that claim.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must comply with applicable third-party terms when using the app.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and once you accept them, Apple has the right to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
11. Changes and contact
We may change these terms. We will update this page and its date, and the app will ask you to agree again before a change that matters applies. Questions, complaints and claims about the app go to support@wezel.ai.
